Clean, interesting telling of Beauty and the Beast. If you like fairy tales this book is for you
I like reading this book but the revision of Cinderella story kept me on my toes more. This one just had random parts were I was like I'm getting a little bored here. I would recommend to read though
There writing was terrible, the grammar atrocious and the story and characters were poorly developed and the dialogue was almost painful to read. I wouldn't recommend it.
This is a very fun story and I feel in love with the characters. The writing is a bit simple and cliche, but it was fun to read! It has a good moral which it stresses a little too obviously sometimes ;) An enjoyable way to spend some free time!
The story premise was not bad, but the execution made it not as enjoyable a read for me. The protagonists both had big issues to make them either believable or likable. The prince was battling his inner demon, but had no real consistency in what caused either his failings or his personal growth. Beauty has some strange combination of Stockholm syndrome and repressed feminist. The timeline in which she is supposed to fall in love with him and break the spell is unrealistic, and the story timeline really doesn't make sense. The author does not account for the time passed correctly. Sorry, this probably sounds like a rant, but at some point finishing this book was not enjoyable, but really hoping for some kind of good wrap up... which you could say the ending was happy, but also rather unrealistic, even with magic.
What’s not to love? The major characters, Isabelle and John, are dynamic protagonists , I.e. they remain true to their character but gain depth and understanding as they mature into adults of lasting integrity who value inner qualities over outward attributes of beauty and power. The main antagonist, the See-er/witch, is wicked throughout, but cleverly reveals herself as a multifaceted character, more of a beast than the one she creates.
The author stays true enough to the traditional story to satisfy the staunchest lover of fairytales however, she weaves a creative tale of intrigue, perseverance, adversity, and best of all—lasting love and devotion.
Who would enjoy such a book? Any lover of a retold fairytale with unexpected twists, a fantastic plot, but believable characters even in a make-believe setting. I rate this book 5-star, a rarity for me, and I look with eager anticipation to see if the author stays true to her strong writing skills in her other works!
